12 Lessons I Learned in The First Year of My 40's

I left my marriage and learned the biggest lessons of my life

At 39 I made some major life changes. I found my voice, stood up for myself, and left my toxic marriage. I decided it was time to stop putting myself last. The learning curve that resulted was one of the biggest of my life.

Here’s what I discovered this year that I wish I’d known in my 20's:

1. I am important too

Yes, your kids, your family, and your friends need you. Yes, it’s important to support your partner. But you’re important too.

It’s okay to have needs and get them met, to take time out, and to pursue your dreams. Pursuing your dreams is so much more important than you think. It’s not selfish to think about yourself sometimes.

2. Doing what I’m passionate about brings me alive

Find what sparks you and do it as often as you can. It benefits everyone when you’re excited about life. Doing what you love gives you energy that you can pass on to those around you!

Don’t neglect your passions. They might be your gift to the world, or the world’s gift to you.

3. I’m a friggin’ catch
