6 Lies Lovers Tell That Make You Feel Trapped

“I don’t lie.”

That’s a lie we tell ourselves and our partners. We all lie. We lie when we say, “I’m fine” when we’re not. We lie when we tell them, “Don’t worry about it” when what they did upset us. Lovers lie to please each other, to avoid conflict, to say what’s easiest.

Good relationships are strengthened with hard, honest conversations and these small lies can do damage if left unchecked. But, most of the time, although it’s not good communication, they are relatively minor.

Then there are the other lies we tell each other — the ones that make a big difference long-term.

1. “You’re not that attractive.”

You’ve probably heard of Gaslighting. It’s a technique used to wear people down, control, and manipulate them. At the extreme end it’s a serious form of abuse, but it can also be done in subtle ways that you hardly notice.
