Great piece. Publishing is certainly cyclical. People were saying "Personal Essays are dead" years ago, but I make more money off them now than ever before (I've been writing them for over 16 years now). But we also need to be ready to move with the tide. Sometimes it just won't be the right time for a story to find its audience.
