Hi Rebecca, great question — the majority of my paid work is for parenting magazines and websites so my blog articles are parenting related: babies to teens, single parenting issues such as coparenting, dating after divorce, and communicating with the ex (I publish a lot of them here on Medium). I also have a couple of writing articles. All my blog articles are a very specific style because it operates both as a blog for parents and a profile for me. Most of the articles end up being grabbed by editors and republished in their magazines so I write in a way I know they will like: conversational, research-backed, educational, around 1000 words (often they ask me to reduce them down to 500 words for magazines). It’s quite restrictive. Here on Medium I decided to just write whatever I like and about anything I like, which is great after ten years of writing (pretty much) the same stuff! I’ll be publishing an article about creating a brand for your writing soon which might help.
