1. My favorite historical figure is usually the one I'm studying at any given moment. I find people and their motives fascinating (even if they aren't always that likeable).

2. Tricky! Yes and no. I don't think it's fair to judge people in the past for certain actions when their understanding of the world, circumstances, and cultural norms were different to ours. However, there are some actions of individuals and groups that are so awful (no matter where or when you live) it would be difficult to believe they didn't know what they were doing.
