I think people have misunderstood the new research in the field of Positive Pyschology to mean that we need to be “fake happy” all the time. All emotions are valid and, although a positive mindset can be very helpful in many situations, a supportive friend to cry with us as we process grief and pain is just what we need sometimes.

There are “positive” ways to express all emotions: to cry, talk and be held is one positive way to express grief. To take action and fight injustices is one positive way to express anger.

“Positive” can mean acceptance and healthy grieving. Thank you for being so vulnerable in sharing what must have been a very difficult time.
