I wouldn't pick up a hitchhiker or hitchhike. People do it all the time here in New Zealand, but I just don't like the idea of being stuck in a car with a stranger. What if you're hitchhiking and the driver is high or a terrible driver or a complete creep? Maybe I'm too safety conscious.
