Tonight I added it up. Between this account and my pen name, I’ve now written over 150 stories for PS I Love You. When I sent in my first story, I never expected this publication to help change my life in so many ways.
As a writer, you never know who you’ll have an impact on with your words. We’re the showy front-of-house entertainers; the ones who get the claps and comments. Editors — they have the quiet job in the back: making an impact on the lives of writers. So here’s my standing ovation for them.
The world is watching
In 2018, here in little New Zealand, it wasn’t Medium overall I stumbled on first. It was PS I Love You and, as a magazine writer 11 years deep in parenting articles, I thought it would be a fun place to publish my short fiction and be creative.
When my based-on-truth fiction story, “The House Where Jess Lives” made Editor’s Pick, I think I cried. It was just the encouragement I needed. Having recently left my marriage, I was alone for the first time in 16 years. Honestly, I was terrified of being a woman on my own at night and weekends without my kids were so long and empty.
