If They’re “The One” Shouldn’t You Just Know?
I used to think so but not anymore
“When they’re the one, do you just know?” my friend asked me. “Like a gut-feeling they’re the right guy?” She’d been dating her boyfriend for six months and was having doubts.
“Yeah, within the first few months.” I noted her defeated expression and paused. I felt bad for her, but I also felt confident in my answer. “If you’re still unsure, he’s probably not the right guy.”
I’d gotten engaged to my first husband at the six-month mark. Within a few weeks of meeting, marriage was already slipping into our conversations. We just knew it was right. We felt like our relationship was destined. Fate. God-planned. I’ve never believed in soul-mates exactly, but we both felt we’d found the real thing.
What I didn’t know at the time is when you have a confident “this is the one” feeling it could be something else. Feeling like they’re the one happens for several reasons.
When you’re with the right person, do you just know? It’s not as simple as that. Here’s two reasons why:
