In 2010-2011, I went through two large earthquakes in Christchurch, New Zealand when my daughter was 6 weeks and 6 months old. The first one was a 7.1 and just damaged buildings. The second one was 6.2 and killed 185 people and left many more injured. There were thousands of aftershocks for years afterwards. The sound of the rumble before a quake is the PTSD trigger for me now. But I was encouraged by the way the community pulled together. It was really special and made me realize how many kind, generous people there are in the world.
