In NZ they removed standardized testing from schools several years ago. Entrance to University has always been determined by school grades rather than standardized test results, anyway. But they did function as a screening tool for learning problems such as dyslexia, and that can be a valid reason to use them. I agree that we don't need to throw out standardized testing, just think more carefully about how they are used.
