The Truth About Parenting

And how you can enjoy it more

I often hear or read parents talking about how hard parenting is. They aren’t wrong! Parenting is a challenging and steep learning curve. It’s tiring, tests us, and stretches our patience.

When I was working in early intervention and teaching, I saw many parents struggling with their children’s behaviors. One parent even said to me, “Never have kids, it ruins your life.”

That’s a pretty extreme attitude, they were at a very low point, but I know myself that some days I find it hard to enjoy parenting too.

It’s easy to develop a negative attitude about parenting when we focus on our kids’ behavior problems, conflict points, the traits we don’t like, and where they are pushing our boundaries.

Yes, it’s important to deal with these issues and difficulties, but to enjoy parenting more we need to shift our main focus.

Here are some of the things I’ve been focusing on lately:

The truth about parenting

It’s only for a short time.

  • Children are newborns for 28 days.
  • Infants for a year.
  • Toddlers for another year.
  • Preschoolers for 3 years.
