It's good to remember they only see a tiny part of your life in an 1000 word story and because they feel connected to us (if we write well--which you do!) people sometimes do make assumptions based on it. When it happens to me, I take it as a sign I've touched someone's heart enough with my story that they'd care enough to give advice. Even if that advice doesn't actually fit my real situation.
