My partner was nearby, up the track a bit. For us it’s relatively safe here in New Zealand. But it certainly was an incredible experience and one I will repeat! I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I think the main reason I didn’t feel lonely was I was feeling so in awe and appreciative of the beauty of it all. You could probably find that same feeling in an art museum or looking at the clouds from an apartment. That feeling of something bigger than us, something beautiful. It made everything else seem small. CS Lewis calls it Appreciation-love — Like a kind of worship or strong feeling of gratitude he says.
