My stepmum used the phrase “your career as a writer” in a conversation with me after my first article was published and it had a big impact. It was the first time I’d ever been called a writer or thought of myself as one. Just like any job, I think we are either: learning to be it, doing it as a job, or enjoying it as a hobby. Builders are learning to build, are builders, or enjoy building in their spare time. We can be learning to write, be writers, or enjoy writing as a hobby. Writing isn’t some magical thing — just a job like any other. I think we need to treat it that way a little bit more. No-one would feel like an imposter calling themselves a builder if that’s what they did for work, would they? Great article Monique Belanger
