New Zealand had our first female prime minister in 1997 and have always been a country who has strong female leadership in many ways (getting the woman’s vote etc). I’m not sure the answer to your questions but I do think being a small country helps. Perhaps it’s also our culture? We tend to be determined and proactive in difficult situations and to work together well — we’re not overly divisive in general. We’ve had some big events such as the Christchurch earthquake and mosque killings lately which have bought us together as a nation a lot, so we are also used to taking an “in it together” attitude, which is certainly Jacinda Arden’s approach.
